Golden Girl Estelle Getty Dies at 84

Buzz up!

Surrounded by her family and caregivers, actress Estelle Getty — known for her role as the wise-cracking Sophia Petrillo on the Golden Girls — died Tuesday morning at her Los Angeles home.

She was 84.

She was to turn 85 on Friday.

Her longtime caregiver Paul Chapdelaine wrote on her Web site:

"Sadly, today July 22, 2008 at 5:35 a.m. Pacific Time, we said our last good-byes to our little friend Estelle, who passed away and made her journey to the great beyond. Although it was a trip that she never wanted to take, she went gracefully, in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by her family and her very loving care-givers.

"Estelle's legacy will live on and on through the comedy and laughter she gave to us all, which will forever keep us laughing out loud.

"For us here, who have known and cared for her for so many years, we've lost our dear little friend who always kept us entertained by filling our days with joyful laughter. Estelle's fans across the globe have lost the feisty little lady known as Sophia Petrillo, whose quick wit, cutting remarks, and outrageous punch lines will forever be quoted and remembered.

"Estelle was a fighter. She always stood up for the underdogs, fought for equality for all, and always pictured a world filled with "Love and Laughter" —her most favorite catch phrase.

"Estelle, we love you and will miss you dearly. We pray that you are met at the Pearly Gate with open arms and a warm welcome by all who have passed before you. If there's a stage over there, I know you'll be on it. If there's a thrift shop, I know you'll be shopping, and if there's a deli, I know you'll be eating there holding court with Rhoda and Sylvia ... and the laughter will be heard throughout the heavens.

"Goodbye, dear friend. Thank you for all the talent and love that you've shared with us during your time here on Earth. You have touched my life, and the lives of so many others who will never forget you."

Getty had been suffering from poor health over the years.

The latest reports claim she was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia, a progressive brain disease.

In 2005, her Golden Girls co-star Rue McClanahan told Entertainment Tonight when she called her on the phone, "the only thing she was able to say back to me was, 'Yes.'"

Born in New York City, Getty launched her career in the Yiddish theater.

She earned acclaim for her role as playing Harvey Fierstein's mother in Broadway's Torch Song Trilogy.

She was best known, however, as the quick-wittted Sophia on The Golden Girls. She won an Emmy in 1988 for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

In 2006, her caregiver told Entertainment Tonight, "Estelle would like them all to know that if she has made you laugh, encouraged you to think, and challenged your beliefs, then she has done her job."

She is survived by her two adult sons, Barry and Carl.

IT'S BATTLE TIME!

My DJ crew, the Stonekutters (Axis, Teddy King, Mikestir, Mirandom, Ill P, Machine, A2), is competing in this year's DMC DJ competition. We'll be up against 5 of the best crews in America battling for the USA Supremacy Title. This will also be the first time a female is competing in a team!

For the past two months: DJ Axis, Mikestir, DJ Machine and DJ Mirandom have created the nastiest 6 minute routine in the house (4 DJs, 4 Decks, 4 Mixers, and a set of headphones)!

About the Print Plates
This is the very first time that the general public has been able to access a piece like this! Up for grabs is an aluminum print plate that was used to print issues of Sole Collector magazine. Usually, once an issue is printed, the plates are destroyed and recycled. This plate is also special in that it was the first time SC ever plated a full 8 page spread. Normally, just the cover is plated.

This plate is from the Jordan XXIII issue, so there is no doubt about it's rarity and collectors value. The plate comes professionally framed and measures 36” by 25”!

I have always admired the sneaker and streetwear culture as a whole. Now that I'm actually having more networking experience in the culture it amazes how snobby people are when it comes to sneakers and streetwear. I mean what are we really being uppity over some sneakers and tees?!? Some of these people at these boutiques wanna stare you up and down and look at you like why are you in here and really why I'm there is to buy some sneakers duh!!! Then you have these people who work or own these shops complain about how hype the whole culture is getting and claiming to be real when there shop is located in the land of hype(Soho and L.E.S.) Who are you fooling? Your feeding into it and you know exactly what your doing. The way some of these people come off its like being at a country club. If you don't have the latest SB or you didn't spend 100 and up on a pair of kicks or didn't buy the most exclusive hoodie you ain't nothing. I thought this whole industry was about wearing what you feel and having fun with it. If I wanted to be judged, I would have entered myself in a beauty pageant!! Cause while you sitting there and judging people and telling people what they should be wearing, Footlocker, Finish Line and Major athletic stores are taking your money. Here is a suggestion for all the people who own and work at these exclusive boutiques take the stick out and relax!!!

R&B's most secretive couple were sharing a romantic weekend in Jamaica and we can say for sure guys, the cat is out of the bag.
The Grammy winner, who was thrown a big birthday bash by Chris for her 20th birthday last week, was all over her younger man. "They were smooching in the pool and were really lovely dovey," the PageSix.com spy told us exclusively. "They were playfully making out and he was kissing her on the neck."
The attractive pair, who got matching star tattoos on their necks in January, got in the pool after a leisurely lunch yesterday at the Hilton Kingston Hotel in Jamaica. They were hanging out with friends and at about 3 p.m., Chris, 18, jumped into the water and waited while Rihanna went to her room and changed into a bikini.
She came back and was very scared of getting her hair wet, said the spy. "They were floating together with him carrying her and she kept saying, 'Don't get my hair wet.' She was very soft and feminine but he was a big kid and splashing around."
The couple arrived in Jamaica together on Friday from Rihanna's native Barbados for the Smile Jamaica Africa Unite Bob Marley celebration in St. Mary, where she performed.

Music writer/artist/producer Stephen “Static/Major” Garrett died unexpectedly on Monday in his hometown of Louisville, Ky. I have yet to find any official reports about his death, but many people are leaving their condolences on his myspace page. This is a major loss for the music industry.
Many of you may not know Static by face, but you definitely know his music. He was signed to the Blackground record label where he found his first breakthrough working with R&B singer Ginuwine. The single “Pony” became a major hit and a milestone in the careers of both Static and Timbaland. He then went on to produce Aaliyah’s “Are You That Somebody?” featured on the Dr. Dolittle soundtrack. Not to mention he produced many tracks for Aaliyah’s self-titled final album. Many of you may also remember him as part of the R&B trio, Playa, who were signed to the Def Jam record label at one point during their career. In recent months he was working on his new album, SUPPERTIME, which was slated to drop this year.
He also worked with artists: Tank, Destiny’s Child, Brandy, JoJo, Jay-Z, and Diddy, just to name a few. Make sure to view the Playa video from “Cheers 2 U” after the cut. He also made a cameo in the “Are You That Somebody?” video as well.
We would like to give our condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.
